Much like 2023, hardwood flooring trends in 2024 will be influenced by a variety of factors, including design, sustainability, and functionality. Here are the 5 hardwood flooring trends we are predicting for 2024:
Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Materials
The focus on sustainability and eco-friendly materials will continue to grow in 2024. Homeowners are increasingly interested in floors made from reclaimed wood, salvaged timber, and sustainably certified wood. Locally produced hardwood flooring is another easy way to ensure your flooring has a low carbon footprint. These materials not only provide a unique and rustic appearance, but also help us lower our impact on the environment. Water based finishes will continue to dominate over oil based finishes. Water-based finishes will continue to dominate over oil-based finishes. Water-based finishes tend to have very low to no VOCs compared to oil-based finishes. In addition to the eco-friendliness of water-based finishes, there are also aluminum oxide finishes.
Herringbone Pattern:
We predict this classic and elegant design will make a significant comeback in 2024. The Herringbone Pattern is a timeless design that adds visual interest and unique texture to any room, making it a popular choice for both modern and traditional homes. We started recognizing this trend with homeowners, designers, and architects towards the end of 2023.
Light and Airy Tones
Natural and light-colored wood floors will continue to be in high demand as we started to see that trend in 2023. Lighter and natural tones create a more open, bright, and airy atmosphere in any room. These floors make spaces feel larger and more welcoming while providing a more neutral backdrop for your ever-changing home decor. Grey tones, especially dark greys, will continue to trend out as we started to notice towards the end of 2023.
Textured Finishes
Distressed, hand-scraped, wire-brushed, and rough-sawn textures will continue to remain in strong demand as they have in previous years. These textured finishes add character and a rustic antique look to hardwood floors, making them a popular choice amongst homeowners who want a unique statement in their living spaces. One of the best advantages of a textured hardwood floor, it helps hide dents, dings, and scratches that will inevitably occur over time.
Rustic Natural Charm
Wider planks, random widths, longer lengths, imperfections, saw marks, and matte finishes are certain to be a popular choice in 2024. Live-sawn floors with a natural character such as mineral streaks, dramatic grain patterns, cracks, and splits bring warmth and personality to any space. This trend embraces the beauty of natural wood and creates an organic, cozy, and inviting atmosphere in your home. Matte finishes will continue to outpace gloss finishes since they are much more forgiving in terms of showing scratches and wear.
2024 is set to be an exciting year for hardwood flooring trends. From sustainable wood to innovative finishes, these trends are sure to inspire homeowners, interior designers, and architects to create stunning living spaces that are both stylish and environmentally conscious. So whether you are planning a new build or simply looking to update your home’s flooring, consider these hardwood flooring trends to stay ahead of the curve in 2024.
