Why We Love Solid Wood Floors
Posted: December 2, 2019Why We LOVE Solid Wood Floors!
When looking for wood flooring for your home you will be hit with two major options, engineered wood or solid wood. Both will give you the warm natural look that you are after in a wood floor but which one is best? Of course we are biased but why?
First of all what is Engineered Wood Flooring?
Engineered wood floor is made of layers of both hardwood and plywood. The top layer is a thin layer of actual hardwood while the rest are layers of plywood.
Solid wood floors are…. just that, solid wood!
So what do we think solid wood floor has on engineered wood floors?
Solid wood floors have been around for, well a long time! So they have been tested and tried. You’ve probably watched those renovation shows where they peel back a layer of carpet to find solid wood floors and they all get excited. Here’s what all the excitement is about:
- Solid wood floors can be refinished decades after they’ve been installed. Engineered wood floors depending on the thickness of the top layer may not ever be able to be refinished, and if they can be, probably only once in their lifetime.
- Solid wood floors are durable. Engineered wood floors can only take so much, all depending on the thickness of the top layer.
- When and if either floor is damaged, repair on solid wood floors will prove much easier and effective than on engineered wood.
- When all is said and done, both floors come out about equal in cost comparison between the product costs and installation. Because of longevity and durability, solid wooden flooring is a much better investment.
So what makes our solid wood floors so great?
People who shy away from solid wood floors are usually concerned about the wear and tear a normal family will do the the surface. With our textures, the average wear and tear only adds to the overall beauty and distressing of our floors. Do we recommend abusing them, no we sure don’t. But do we recommend living on them, yes we sure do.
